NAEGA thanks retiring board members
Posted: 21 January 2010
Recently, Kathy Blackmore and Viv Rivis stood down from the NAEGA board after long service. Thanks to both for their hard work over the years.
Vivienne Rivis
Vivienne stands down after five years service on the NAEGA board.
A graduate of the London School of Economics, Goldsmiths' College and the University of Hull, she has worked in every sector of education as a teacher, manager and policy adviser. She managed a pioneering educational guidance service for adults (EASA) in Bradford in the 1980s, then led the government-funded National Educational Guidance Initiative for England and Wales from 1988 to 1993. NEGI developed and supported a national infrastructure for adult guidance, including good practice guides, the first occupational standards and the first quality framework.
In 2004, she became our fourth president. She filled this role with energy and distinction. Her contribution was always more than attending conferences and NAEGA board meetings. She encouraged colleagues, shared her wisdom and undertook drafting and redrafting of NAEGA papers and publications. This is particularly visible in Vivienne's work on Learning from Adult Guidance Practice: NAEGA Case Studies, which we published as a NAEGA Occasional Publication.

Thank you Vivienne for this service to adult guidance and particularly to NAEGA. You have served us well.
Kathy Blackmore
Kathy stands down after 11 years on the NAEGA board. She came to adult guidance through her work in adult basic education and an MA in Careers Education and Guidance. She joined NAEGA in the 1990s via the Bedfordshire Careers and Guidance Service and served on the board from 1998 until 2009. During that period she chaired (2005-2007) and then managed the Branch Development Project (2004-2006). She delivered this externally funded project with style. She also convened the planning groups for our 2000, 2005 and 2006 annual conferences. Kathy always wanted NAEGA to become more professional and efficient in what it did (this was exemplified by her moving the board to adopt its first ever business plan). She contributed to this process with hard work, flair and enthusiasm. She is still active in the guidance field and is a registered matrix adviser and assessor.
Kathy, many thanks for all your efforts both for NAEGA nationally and the East of England Branch.
