New short accredited professional CPD courses in Careers Education

London South Bank University is offering new short accredited professional CPD courses in Careers Education.
These new courses are specifically designed to give applicants the competence and confidence to lead and manage careers education programmes in school and colleges. They have been developed using the expertise of the Careers Team at London South Bank University and offer a new career progression route for teachers and support staff from non-teaching backgrounds wishing to develop their expertise in careers education.
Careers education provides a means of developing individuals' knowledge, understanding and experience of opportunities in education, training and employment and the skills necessary to make informed decisions Effective careers education supports career guidance by providing some of the underpinning knowledge and understanding helpful to making career choices.
Course and availability (15 places per unit)
Autumn 2010:
- Leading & Managing Careers Education*
- Opportunity Structures within Careers Education
- Theoretical Approaches (Distance Learning)
Spring 2011:
- Delivering Careers Education*
- Applying to Higher Education
All courses are available as single stand alone units. Each unit is the equivalent of 15 credits / 1 unit at Level 7 (Masters). The PG Cert in Careers Education comprises of 2 core units* and 2 optional units
Cost
For 2010/2011 the cost of each on-site unit is £645.
Assessment
The programme uses a variety of assessment types which focus on work related learning and reflection. These include a mix of work based learning activities, presentations, interview skills and written assignments. Each unit is assessed against clear criteria.
Typical background of applicant
- It would normally be expected that applicants are qualified to at least the equivalent of the Qualifications and Curriculum Framework level 4/5 (equivalent to 1st/2nd year undergraduate).
Applications are also welcome from those without the required qualification who possess the life/work skills that would make them suitable to study at this level. - Must have regular client/student contact.
