Report on the final conference of nextstep Tees Valley
Eddie Costello and his colleagues are to be congratulated on the quality of the final conference of nextstep Tees Valley before it becomes a part of the new regional service.
The conference was given a good start by Deirdre Hughes with a spirited talk Adults seeking New Opportunities: Finding Hidden stories. Deirdre is surely right to assert that our work in adult guidance conceals so many hidden stories. The after lunch talk by John Lees challenged existing ideas about careers: Travelling without Maps: Rethinking Careers Choice in a World of Change. Complete with apposite quotations (e.g. from Eddie Obeng “The pace of change has exceeded our ability to cope with it”
) John stimulated the audience to think again about orthodox approaches to careers. The workshops at the conference were also high quality.
