Foundation Direct Careers Support Website Project

Posted: 1 October 2008

Foundation Direct (CETL) at Portsmouth University is currently working on a project to develop a careers support website for Foundation degree (Fd) students.

The decision to develop this website was initially inspired by an apparent deficit in the careers support available to Fd students. Foundation degree students are career focused by nature. This is reflected in their choice of a work-based learning qualification. However, despite the need for structured tailored advice for this student group, there appears to be very little in the form of support in place at present.

The project aim is therefore to create a careers development support website that is pitched at Fd students in order to enhance and improve their career learning experience. Data has already been collected from Fd students at Portsmouth University and partner colleges about the level of support students currently feel they receive, their attitudes towards career development, what kind of support they would like to receive that they currently do not receive, and whether they would use a careers support website designed specifically for their needs.

This data will form the basis of the design and content of the website, which is currently being developed. It is hoped that it will be available for viewing early 2009. Watch this space for updates!
