Wanted! Careers Advisers who have left Connexions
Posted: 16 July 2008
The Institute of Career Guidance are currently conducting a research project to investigate the impact of 14-19 policies on career guidance in England, particularly the formation of Connexions, and its recent devolvement to local authorities. The primary focus is on continuity and change in the professional roles, identities and practices of Careers Advisers. The project is based at Manchester Metropolitan University, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, and supported by the ICG and Careers England.
Project Director, Helen Colley writes, “In addition to research with Careers Advisers still working as Personal Advisers within Connexions, we know that there has been a relatively high turnover of such staff. So we also want to include the views of some Careers Advisers who have made a professional decision to leave Connexions, and to understand their reasons for moving on.
“If you are a qualified Careers Adviser, have worked in Connexions, and have left Connexions to pursue employment in another context, we would very much like to hear from you. We will then send you more detailed information about the project, so that you can decide whether you definitely wish to take part. Participation will involve being interviewed by one of the researchers for about 90 minutes on one occasion, at a time and venue to suit you, and your contribution will be carefully anonymised in any reports of findings to protect your confidentiality.
“So that we can select a sample if necessary, it would be helpful if you could state in your message which career guidance qualification you hold, the year that you completed it, and (very briefly) your reasons for leaving Connexions.”
