Goal Setting and Action Planning with Individuals and Groups: A practical workshop

Does your work involve delivering information, advice and guidance?
NIACE offers practical one-day training courses, which focus on the skills frontline staff need to help people effectively in a range of settings. This day focuses on developing skills and techniques to identify realistic goals and the steps to take to achieve them. By the end of the session participants will be aware of:
- The reasons why action plans may not be effective
- A range of methods for action planning with individuals
- Ways of working with groups
- The range of skills needed for effective action planning
The day will be highly participative, with plenty of opportunities to practise the skills needed for successful action planning with individuals and groups, including setting long term goals, setting short term targets, building confidence and motivating people, and helping to record plans and support people to review progress towards achieving them.

Upskilling Frontline Staff: Training to identify and meet the needs of customers through effective interviewing techniques

Does your work involve delivering information, advice and guidance?
Are you a guidance worker, information adviser, receptionist, teacher or tutor?
Practical training courses are being organised by NIACE focusing on the skills frontline staff need to help people effectively by using interviewing activities to identify needs and exploring approaches to meet those needs. By the end of the session participants will be:
- Able to define what an interview is
- Aware of the health and safety issues
- Aware of the range of skills needed for effective interviewing
- Aware of the factors that contribute to successful interviews
The training will be highly participative, with plenty of opportunities to practise a range of skills needed for successful interviewing including setting a contact, listening, questioning and action planning. Factors that contribute to successful interviews will be explored as well as identifying areas for further development.
