Return to Learn

Posted: 22 March 2007

Ann Ruthven, chair of NAEGA, was delighted to present certificates to adult learners who had participated in the Return to Learn programme in Somerset on 8 March. The programme consists of a range of first step learning courses and workshops which focus on enabling people to get back into learning, volunteering or paid work. These courses are considered to be guidance courses and the needs of learners determine how the course is run. All learners are supported to help them achieve.

Learners were invited to say what the course had meant to them. For one carer it offered a rare opportunity to meet other people and for another it had helped him to cope more positively with difficulties in his life. Many of the learners had gone on to further courses or qualifications.

The learners were so committed that for weeks, when one of the tutors had an accident and was unable to drive, one of the group picked her up and took her home to ensure that the course could continue. Good luck to them all!
