De-merger in Scotland: decision delayed
Posted: 11 January 2007
Just before Christmas, Allan Wilson, Deputy Minister for Enterprise and Lifelong Learning, announced that the main decisions on the future of Careers Scotland had been delayed until after the May elections to the Scottish Parliament.
He said that the Scottish Executive remained committed to transferring CS out of Scottish Enterprise, and in January will begin a full options appraisal on the future structure of CS involving all key stakeholders. CS will become a more distinct entity within the structure of SE pending further changes. Allan Wilson said, “In the meantime, we are asking Scottish Enterprise to make Careers Scotland a more distinct entity within its structure. A further announcement will be made in the new year and we will look to implement the outcomes of the options appraisal from summer 2007 onwards.”
“CS has also been asked to focus its work on providing career guidance to individuals during transition with the central aim being to reduce the number of young people considered NEET - not in education, employment or training.”
