National Construction Week

Posted: 7 September 2007

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and Construction Industry Council (CIC) would like to invite you on a tour of London on Monday 8 October.

You will be accompanied by some of the senior civil, electrical and mechanical engineers and Architects who built it. They will take you on a tour of the capital and provide you with an insight into the skills and challenges required by the professionals working to build our infrastructure.

Monday 8 October is the first day of National Construction Week, a week of construction related activities across the UK.

To pursue a career in the built environment requires A Levels in Science, Maths and Physics. We are keen to increase the number of pupils taking these subjects so more can take engineering related courses at university and pursue a career in this exciting profession. In order to do this we feel it is vital to involve you too, so you fully understand the different aspects of engineering and the opportunities your students could have.

The day will start at 9am and will include:

  • Tour of the 2012 Olympic site at Stratford
  • Trip on the London Underground visiting the engineering works currently underway
  • Lunch
  • Tour of the National Skills Academy at Bishopsgate
  • Trip on the London Eye accompanied by the engineers who designed it.
