Focusing on solutions makes a difference
Bill O'Connell will be sharing new techniques at the NAEGA conference. He is a leading figure in the development of the solution-focused approach in the UK. He is the author of the best seller Solution-Focused Therapy (1998/second edition 2005); Solution-Focused Stress Counselling (2001) and co-editor of The Handbook of Solution-Focused Therapy (2003).
Bill has worked as a solution-focused therapist for many years and is a Fellow and Accredited Counsellor of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. He has introduced thousands of IAG workers to the solution-focused approach through his engaging and informative training courses.
Many IAG workers report that using the solution-focused approach in their interviews helps to engage and motivate clients. This new approach builds upon clients' signature solutions to life's challenges. It encourages them to be more aware of their personal and social resources and to find ways of maximising unused potential. It works with "what's there, not with what's not there". Advisers aim to ask more, tell less. Their questioning helps clients to connect with and learn from, their own previous experiences.
