Conference Concessions Scheme 2007
The concession scheme facilitates member attendance and participation in the conference in Manchester. It includes help towards:
- Conference fees for members who are retired, full-time students, without a substantial or main employer or unable to obtain employer support [*]
- Travel costs of any member resident in the UK or the Republic of Ireland who is unable to obtain employer support for travel
- Care costs for dependants
EXCEPTIONALLY THE TRUSTEES WILL CONSIDER APPLICATIONS WHERE THERE IS A VERY LATE CHANGE IN DELEGATE CIRCUMSTANCES
How much?
There is no fixed amount for the concessions. However, the sort of maximum figures that the trustees normally consider towards conference fees (including two nights' accommodation) is £285 plus £62 if applicant is not VAT registered (the maximum award will normally be £347).
For travel costs, NAEGA will help with UK and Republic of Ireland members whose costs by the cheapest available return rail/airfare to Manchester exceed £50. NAEGA will meet the difference between £50 and the actual fare calculated on this basis. For unemployed members NAEGA will help with fares over £20.
The maximum contribution towards care costs is likely to be £100.
The travel and care costs concessions can be awarded, in addition to, or separately from, help towards Conference Fees.
Payment
- For concessions that reduce the conference fee, the trustees will issue a voucher that should accompany the conference booking form together with a cheque for the remainder. Invoices cannot be issued where such a concession is awarded.
- For care cost and travel concessions, delegates should present their travel voucher together with receipts or tickets upon registration at Manchester. A cheque will be issued to them at the conference.
Process
Applications for concessions will be considered on a first-come first-served basis. The trustees will try to make decisions within 10 days of receiving an application. No applications will be processed after 1 June 2007.
We want to make the concessions as simple as possible to claim and administer. However NAEGA has decided that the trustees will operate separately from the conference administration and will do so confidentially.

*Applicants in full-time or substantial employment are expected to ask their employer for assistance to attend/meet travel costs and to produce a copy of the letter (or e-mail) of refusal. The concessions scheme for members in work is intended to be the sponsor of 'last resort'.
